Funny or curious and beautiful thing about songwriting… we think we know what the songs are about when they’re being written but often times, their true meaning will only reveal itself way after the process has happened.

With Imperio Dos Sentidos, I first believed it was my way to express the experience of a chat I had with a friend and what I felt she needed at that time. I put myself in her place, or thought I did, and wrote it from that perspective.

Later, I wondered if maybe, I was the one asking for a hug… I was the one looking for a shoulder to rest my head on, a place to rest from the chaos of the world…

Sometimes, in order to connect with ourselves we need a “reflection out there” showing it to us what it is we need to see… Other times, the opposite holds true and we can only connect to others once we have connected to ourselves first. Then, the personal can become universal and vice versa… when we allow ourselves to feel and be vulnerable, we allow others to do the same.

And that’s when the song ceases to be “yours” … once it’s born or released it becomes a living being whose real meaning and purpose is its own and over which we have no control whatsoever.

Império Dos Sentidos is out in a just few more days and I look forward to sharing it with you and witnessing what it’ll become.
